Dr. Seuss Family Night (with a focus on ELA and the Arts): March 2nd from 6:30-8:00! Thanks to many of you for providing insight into this event. We are going to aim for an ELA/Arts focus this year and maybe look at making it more of a Science/Math/History focus next year and rotate every two years to keep it fresh and fun. Here's what you need to know/help us prepare for this year:
Classified Staff: This is typically a good time of the year to schedule to review your annual evaluation with your supervisor. If it's me, please let me know a good time to meet. If it's not me, talk to your supervisor about getting a review time set up and your evaluation completed.
Committees vs, Full Staff Meetings Defined: As a review, here are the purposes of your roles on committees we are using this school year. Every year we will reflect and shift your committees roles as interest and trainings change. My educational philosophy is what I call 'Situational Leadership'. You each have unique strengths to share. Whenever possible, I try to recap the work of all groups to the full staff via this newsletter knowing that most folks prefer to read information that doesn't require discussion. In Situational Leadership, the following are the purposes for each group. Some decisions I open for feedback, and at other times, I make the decision based on what I believe is best. Here is what I shared at the beginning of the year to review the expectations of each.
Lunch Duty Schedule Edits: I emailed out the team that met with me last week to brainstorm some possible duty switches. Watch for a new schedule in your box if you are on the 'duty schedule'. New schedule will start Monday.
Box Tops: Keep pushing these with students! Much appreciation to those that added it to your weekly/monthly parent newsletters.

We are going to aim for an ELA/Arts focus this year and maybe look at making it more of a Science/Math/History focus next year and rotate every two years to keep it fresh and fun. Here's what you need to know/help us prepare for this year:
- Distribute flyers and encourage students to bring in used books to donate to our used book sale
- Teachers collect the used books in your rooms until Student Council comes around to take them/organize them.
- Anyone who wants to be a guest reader (with your favorite children's book), let Holly Pedrow know. We do have high school students committed to come read as well.
- All Staff: We need help from 3:00-4:00 on March 2nd to set up.
- Anyone: Help decorate our building in Dr. Seuss themed things!
- Teachers: Please display/post any student writing samples and art in the hallways (Classrooms will be locked up unless your room will be used for a guest reader). We want families to wonder through our hallways of writing and art!
- Think Dr. Seuss on March 2nd and what fun you can add to the kids' day to make it more special. Also, how about a 'DRESS UP DAY in your Favorite Dr. Seuss Costume'!
- 'Fantasy & Form' (Traveling Student Art Show) will be on display in the library thanks to our Creative Arts Committee
- I've heard Sean and Yuri could pull off setting up a fun Dr. Seuss photo booth with props for the night ~ I bet they'd appreciate our help and props if anyone has some.
- All staff is invited to attend this special event on March 2nd. Kids love to see staff, but of course it's your choice. Bring your families and let's show our kids we can have fun too!

- Committees are for decision making per specific topics that are then brought back up to full staff when needed/necessary/ready. This is to allow deep conversations of interested parties as we all picked a committee that was of interest to share in the work load. Each committee rep is responsible to share or schedule time to meet with their team to relay the information and seek feedback. If you are missing information, ask to meet with your rep for your team
- Staff Meetings are for information and training. Typically, my philosophy is full staff meetings aren't a place for deep dialogue. My goal at staff meetings are to hear from other leaders from within our staff and to leave with new learning.
Lunch Duty Schedule Edits: I emailed out the team that met with me last week to brainstorm some possible duty switches. Watch for a new schedule in your box if you are on the 'duty schedule'. New schedule will start Monday.
Team Discussion Tasks per your Advisory Rep: Check in with your Advisory Rep on the following topics if they are things that effect your team.
- Aim to Draft/Schedule/Plan all grade level outings/Field Trips (send to Val)
- National Christmas Tree Ornaments ~ Let Val know which ornament, how many kits you need, and a deadline. Our challenge is to make 1000 ornaments by June 1st.
- Edit Supply Lists for your grade level (turn into the office on paper)
- Share wish list items you'd like PTA to consider budgeting for in the future (submit ideas to Val)
- Ordering for 16-17: What consumables? Agendas/Planners?
- Share your ideas for how to do Class Placements for 16-17 (Use last years form or edit it)?
- March/April we will work on starting a conversation about Report Cards and Gradebook changes you'd like to see
Box Tops: Keep pushing these with students! Much appreciation to those that added it to your weekly/monthly parent newsletters.
Staff Assignments and/or Room Changes: If you haven't told me your dreams/wishes for next school year, please catch me and let me know by next Friday.
