{Other NOTES from the DUGOUT}

Snowman Clean Up:  If you haven't done it yet, please take your class outside to help clean up the accessories on our village of snowmen...thank you.

Copy Machine:  Our lease is up so we are just hoping our machines keep running through March.  Our IT Dept/District are hoping to get us new machines before year end.  Stay tuned for an update.

Snacks:   Please remind students that snacks are intended for students who are truly hungry and aren't able to bring a snack from home.  Remind and invite students to bring a snack/water from home daily (add that to your next parent newsletter even)! I am going to chat with our 1st/2nd graders at an upcoming Community Meeting about this so that they can last longer than a day. Donna will continue to try to distribute a collection to each classroom weekly.  When it's gone, it's gone.

Messages/Stuff for Kids from the Office:  The advisory reps helped develop a plan so Donna/Jodi don't have to call to interrupt your teaching or email you (as you don't always check it) with student things to pick up in the office.  They will still have to call on occasion, so please be kind.  Ms. Carissa is going to use one of her students/paras to deliver belongings dropped off in the office to classrooms around 10:00 daily and again before lunch.  It never hurts to look at the office counter for any deliveries when you are out and about as well.  We will strive to put a sticky note on each item with student name and classroom so anyone can deliver.

Lunch Duty Schedule & Reminders:  Thanks to the 'non classroom staff', we brainstormed ways to ensure we have adequate 'supervisors' during lunch hour.  Some of the tweaks we are making:

  • Shrink up the field until the snow melts so kids aren't so far back (watch for a make shift fence to come to determine a smaller boundary. (Shrink the boundary)
  • Ask to clean off the sidewalks around the playground
  • Shift around a few duty times to ensure some over lap times for specific duties and to help fill the two gaps at the start and end of recess times (watch for a new schedule next week with some minor tweaks)
  • Always be ready and on time (or a minute early) for your shift
  • Be moving - triangle zones to ensure all areas have a supervisor
  • Students shouldn't be sent to the office unless they are hurt (otherwise, write up a note/slip/etc. to leave for Val to follow up on or just collect data on any kids that had to be disciplined during your shift).  Don't be afraid to have student 'walk and talk' with you, redirect them, apologize, etc. and show them you aren't afraid of giving a consequence.
  • Use cafe duties to help transition 1st/2nd graders inside quicker and quieter.
  • Morning Options (Gym, Music Room, Cafe, Outside) will be choices until the snow is gone.
  • Recess Expectations for Games and specifics is going to be worked on by our lunch duty supervisors

Advisory Reps To Do List:  Our Advisory meeting was a long one this week.  I cancelled grade level team meetings with me next week (except for Kindergarten) to give you back some time; but perhaps your team can work on some of these topics per your Advisory Rep:
  • Schedule/Plan all grade level outings/Field Trips
  • National Christmas Tree Ornaments ~ Let Val know which ornament, how many kits you need, and a deadline.  Our challenge is to make 1000 ornaments by June 1st.
  • Edit Supply Lists for your grade level
  • PTA:  How to decide what to spend their money one - Voting via a Wish List or Individual Teacher Grants - or both - or another idea? (Perhaps go to the Tuesday PTA Meeting to show your support and offer ideas)
  • Ordering for 16-17:  What consumables?  Agendas/Planners?
  • Share your ideas for how to do Class Placements for 16-17
  • Edit/Ideas for any Report Card or Gradebook changes in Powerschool

Box Tops:  This is our last big push for Box Tops by Feb. 22nd.  Our goal is to bring in another 4,000 before then.  Let's challenge our kids to bring them in!

Staff Assignments and/or Room Changes:  It is about that time of the year when the 'planning for next year' will begin.  If you are seeking a change of assignment, have new interests, want a room change, or who knows what else, please drop me a note, set up a time to meet, or catch me when you can.  I'd like to hear from you by Friday, February 26th.  We are also looking to move up Kindergarten Registration this year to be more sure of our enrollment to determine staffing.
