Grade Level Data Meetings: Roving subs will be here Thursday to allow each grade level team to review their latest reading progress monitoring. Some teams have asked for time to review math progress monitoring. Please use your common prep time if you need it to review math or schedule a time after school.
Writing Team Update: The writing team (a rep. per team) met for the first time. We decided we don't need more WE-CBM's for a bit but need each classroom teacher to administer the persuasive benchmark writing prompt by November 12th. We will schedule roving subs the following week to cover for each teacher to score those together as a team. We will wait and see how this first prompt goes/results look before determining future benchmarks or progress monitoring WE-CBM's.
Storage Rooms: It has come to my attention that we have some piles of 'things' appearing in multiple storage areas. If your grade level has a storage area, please give it an inspection and get rid of unwanted items or get them straightened out. If you do not have a storage area, you are not to sneak your unwanted things into other storage areas. We have a 'free' area in the work room for items you don't want as well. The library storage rooms are to only have library or tech. materials in it. This might be a good project for your work day as well.
Staffing Update: We received approval to hire additional 1:1 Special Ed. Para's (full time or part time) and a full time Counselor/Social Worker at Monday night's board meeting. We then learned that both Mallorie and Jane resigned as PSR workers (thanks ladies for your service to our kids and we wish you the best in your new jobs/roles). Sara and Carissa are working to cover these vacancies and will be helping plan for any new hires as well. Please spread the word that we have some jobs!
We also get the officially welcome Pat Krause to our staff as one of the new Night Custodians! Please welcome Pat! (Still using subs for the other night custodian job).
Certified Staff Only: Three performance/professional goals and self assessment are due to me by October 29th. After reviewing several of them, most have missed including a pre/post assessment measure. At least one of your goals must be a student assessment evaluative goal including a measurable pre/post %. If you're not sure how to do this, let me know.

Results of the last poll (regarding if you want to know who is subbing or out for each day).... 55% of you stated we don't need to inform you of who is out for the day so we will do nothing different.
PTA Meeting Update: The amazing PTA had a great lunch time turn out for the 2nd (of 4) meeting of the year. The downside, is by doing them during the day, we limit teacher involvement. I will try to share their notes/highlights of their meeting here for you:
- Box Tops continue to come in - goal for the year is 10,000 so keep em coming!
- Campbell's Soup Labels are being counted/collected too. Turn any into the PTA mailbox.
- Revenue from the Tortoise & the Hare and Box Tops was awarded to all of the grants that were submitted this fall.
- Back to School BBQ highlights were shared and a small discussion was held on what to do in the future as the costs are so high for the event and parent feedback has been to meet the teachers before school starts.
- Tortoise & the Hare brought in about $2300.00
- Student tshirt contest for a new shirt will be coming soon
- Fall Family Costume Dance Party will be on Friday, Oct. 30th from 5:00-7:00. Let the officers know if you can help.
- PTA will provide breakfast goodies for the staff on November 13th for PT Conferences
- A new student craft fair will be held on Dec. 3rd. Students make the crafts and sell them. The fair will be open to anyone in the community.
- Karen L. was voted in as the new Vice President as the past VP does not have a child at our school anymore.
- Next Meeting: Feb. 11 @ 7:00 PM
Future Events ~
- Monday, October 26: Red Ribbon goodie bag delivered to each classroom/ teach about the meaning of Red Ribbon Week sometime during the week
- Tuesday, October 27: "Sock it to Drugs" (wear crazy socks)
- Wednesday, October 28: "Team up Against Drugs" (wear favorite sport team shirt)
- Thursday, October 29: "Say Boo to Drugs" (Costumes can be worn all day, or for parties, but grade levels must do the same and clearly communicate to parents) - Halloween Parties in the Classrooms as you wish
- Friday, October 30: NO SCHOOL ~ PTA Student Costume Party/Dance 5:00-7:00
PTA sponsored "Holiday Craft Fair with Student Entrepreneurs" ~ December 3rd from 3:00-6:00 PM in our Cafe. Our students are invited to make something to sell at a Craft Fair just for them. Forms just went home with students.

| Weekly Compliment Slips turned into me ... would love to see more! |
- Batter of the Week ~ I have a mini baseball bat. My challenge for each of you is if you receive the bat, add your name with a Sharpie, then pass it WITH PURPOSE to someone on the staff who you can recognize for something nice they did for you, a kid, or our school. Simply tell them when you hand off the bat or leave them a note and the bat so they know. The challenge is to see how many staff members can receive the bat (and sign it). I have handed it to Victoria for her patience and professionalism over the last couple of weeks in handling one our students. Way to hit a homer Victoria! The bat will remain with Victoria until she can hand it over to someone else!
- Nice job on turning in some 'Catching the Compliments'! I type them here and then they will be entered into rewards/treats at staff meetings.
- Dean for pulling the extra work load!
- Anne & Chelsey for being so quick to help with classroom needs!
- Crystal for her patience and dedication to helping clean up our progress monitoring system and helping to communicate what needs to be done.
- Carissa for her impressive demeanor with students no matter the situation!
- Ali & Kathy for being so efficient and consistent with data collection and providing student programs.
- Julia, Angel, & Bob for being such fabulous subs (and so often)!
- Sara for being so flexible and efficient in providing student support and services.
- Crystal for officially being accepted into the Washington Branch of International Dyslexia Association.
