{NOTES from the DUGOUT}
Evaluation Steps (Certified Staff Only): Jodi will be 'calendaring' a 15 minute appointment for each staff member that I'm responsible for evaluating. Bring your Staff Handbook and expect to just review your 3 goals and talk about the process.
Lunch/Recess Time Adjusting: Thank you to Ali, Evonne, Nancy, Crystal, Sara, & Nicole for working to resolve our lunch time back ups for 1st and 2nd grades. This week was great keeping the kids outside lined up and just allowing a regulated group to wash and head straight to lunch. I just appreciate everyone playing with it and adjusting to make it work. Next up is to work on lunch time manners and noise level! (Teachers of grades 1 & 2, it is fine by me to lead your class back to your room when the majority of your kids are done and lined up....I am happy to stay with stragglers if need be so we don't delay you and allow kids to finish their lunch. Your call).
Feedback from 5th graders: Thanks to their informative/persuasive letters to me, I am going to try to do announcements from a different classroom each morning. Beware of where I might show up. (And yes, they provided me many other notes of wisdom and dreams).
Espanol Rapido will be taught by Tricia Jackson in grades 2-4. Times are set for every Tuesday and Thursday. A copy will be in your mailbox. It will run through April.
Positive Action (Counseling Lesson) will be taught in all classrooms based on the lessons you chose on either Thursday or Fridays (whichever day you signed up for). A printed schedule will be in your box.

Work Room: Use the little slips on the counter in the work room for projects you'd like help with. There is a slip for copies and one for other projects (laminating, etc). We are trying to reduce the amount of waste on the laminator and doing it only when there is enough to do so be sure to list dates on your projects and know it might take a couple of days.
5th Grade Ambassadors (NEW NAME ~ Self Manager Program revamped with a new name): Applications went out to all 5th grade students to apply for about 12 leadership 'clubs'. I will work to select all students who can be an example leader and strive to build on each students leadership abilities by choosing them for the club that best meets their needs. Most clubs will meet from 11:45-12:15 over lunch recess and should be helpful and fun for us all - not a hinderance. Volunteers will be leading most of these teams with any other interested staff.
Homework Feedback: I've received some general compliments about homework this year. "Homework is so much better this year, what happened?" "My kid is not bringing home piles of busy work, I am so excited!" "This year we have time to read and practice math facts and spelling because I'm not at the table forcing my kid to do papers". And my favorite, "Our teacher said to enjoy the outdoors and play with our child - and she doesn't assign anything specific on the weekends"! Thank you for rethinking your practice and/or making it meaningful or simply striving to get it all done during the day! Parents have noticed some shifts. (Hopefully you have less correcting too)!
Custodian Update: Pat is a temp. helping out upstairs (from PLMS), Jes is still subbing any nights he can, and Dean is holding down the daytime role. Please note that often folks are calling on a custodian to immediately come restock or pick up an item, when perhaps it would be better to email Dean or put a note in his box so he can finish the job he's on when it's not an emergency situation. Welcome Jason as the new 'Matt' as well. Jason is hoping for some great custodian applicants to help fill our openings.
Behavioral Needs: I've been working with Cynthia, Jake, Jim, area counseling/home/mental health/social work supports to analyze our needs of incoming kids and increased levels of support that are necessary. We are working on a possible job posting for an elementary support person - just a heads up if you see a job opening. Direct any highly qualified applicants to apply.
AESOP: Start using this sub finder system for your time off requests. Be sure you have set up your preferred calling list and/or uploaded a basis schedule perhaps. You are being asked to still notify me if you are calling in sick.

| Weekly Compliment Slips turned into me ... would love to see more! |
- Maggie & Felicity for cleaning up the staff room after our luncheon celebration (and Felicity wasn't even on the the monthly lunch team)!
- Carissa for being such a great team leader and support for all!
- Advisory Team members for doing a fast 'email vote' to help finalize Red Ribbon Week. The votes were very different; thus I tried to find a compromise for the majority. I know you'll all be a sport and support what was voted on. We will discuss Halloween parties and costume ideas/options at our upcoming Advisory Team meeting.
- Cynthia for her diligence in writing up a very specific student safety plan.
- Volunteers, Paula, and any other Para's who have made our work room into a productive place where you can just drop off a project and it gets done!
- 1st Grade team for their amazing agenda/organization at team meetings and for challenging themselves to put grades into PowerSchool regularly to keep parents very informed!
