{Other NOTES from the DUGOUT}
Parent Teacher Conferences: Enjoy your time conferencing and be sure to visit the book fair too. Donna, Jodi, and Val are not in the office Friday.
Grades K-4 / Next Year Student Placement Process: Please use the pink and blue slips to start filling in your data on your current students. If your team has time during conferences, fill free to create 'piles' and turn into the office when done. I will then pass them off to a Specialist team for the next review and they will return to you for a final check.
Kim Update: Kim continues to keep me posted on her accident recovery but still hasn't been released to return to work. Because we are running out of subs, I made the decision to move Katie Wright into Kim's classroom until Kim can return to hopefully provide some stability to the classroom so we don't have to put a different sub in each week. Katie is excited for the opportunity and will do a great job! Karen Borg will fill for Katie's Reading Team job.
PTA May Event: The PTA elected new officers for next year. The current officers also voted to not host a traditional carnival this year but to try a new event. It will be called, "Spring COLOR Fling". It will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 13th. It is essentially going to be a crazy obstacle course out on our playground fields where our families come together and get powdered with color. Every participant needs to register (free) via the back of the April Parent Newsletter or by using this online code: Click here. If you wish to purchase a tshirt, they are $5.00 each. Get your own families excited and consider joining in the fun!
Silent Auction Baskets: The PTA has asked for our help by creating some silent auction baskets to give those who like to spend some money an option to bid on. If your class or grade level can take on a basket, please sign up here: Click here. The PTA goal is to make this a low cost event, mostly free and to simply 'give back' and encourage our families to come together to have fun; thus this was the best idea to generate some revenue to cover costs.
Milk Jugs: I have been asked to collect any empty/cleaned out milk jugs for one of the Capitol Christmas Tree Ornaments for the Payette National Forest. If you have any, leave them in the office for collection.
Calling Classrooms: I'm striving to reduce the number of phone calls to classrooms from the office. As a goal, I have asked the office to only call the classrooms if it's for a parent checking out their child. Sometimes there may be an exception to this rule. Please keep kids in your classroom who come with a note that says 'be in the office at 1:00' for example, until the office calls for them.
Deliveries throughout the Day: It seems to be working great to have our 5th grade student take on the job with Miss Carissa's team to check the office a few times throughout the day to deliver items to classrooms.
Placement of New Students: As a general rule, I have reviewed our placement of new students protocol with Donna and Jodi and just want to recap it here for everyone to understand. Nothing has changed. They will place students first based on which classroom has the lowest numbers. If there is a tie for lowest, then gender is considered next. The office will then make the placement, tell the parent who the teacher(s) will be and then as a general rule we do not make changes and the student starts the next school day. The teacher will be notified of the students basic information and start date via an email.
SBAC: As a reminder, there are NO CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES to do this year prior to any SBAC test. They are no longer available even.
Earth Day: Our Green Team would like to encourage everyone to invite students to learn about Earth Day through an essay or art project as well as consider participating with your class in a Schoolwide Clean Up Day on April 22nd. More details to come later.
Attendance: As a reminder, all classrooms must take attendance daily by 8:30 AM (morning) and 12:30 PM (afternoon) in Powerschool for student safety and to avoid unnecessary automated calls going out to parents.
Common Expectations and Acknowledgements Thank you for the quick feedback before break. We are clearly united and ready and excited to have some common expectations and to focus more of our time on acknowledgments for kids! I had so many kids tell me how many compliments or 'Eagle Eyes' they had received and got some emails and calls from parents even about how excited their kids were about this program. Please invite all staff - custodians, kitchen staff, parent volunteers, etc to know about our expectations and use Eagle Eyes too! I put extras in the work room. Take what you need. Schoolwide Goal is to acknowledge 1-5 students per day for each staff member! Have students deposit 'Eagle Eye' tickets into his/her classroom can for rewards whenever you want to draw winners or we'll do some schoolwide ones too later on.
National Xmas Tree Ornaments ~ I got some new ornaments with all the supplies this week if anyone is up for more crafting! Come by and you can see what I have. All ornaments due by June 1.
